During a brief break in the clouds, Venus can be seen standing at its
low point, six degrees directly above the foreground monuments of the
Palace of the Governor. It is this view, some scholars postulate,
that the Maya used to mark the renewal of that planet's eight-year
cycle of appearances in the sky. This image represents the first time
this moment has ever been captured photographically(!!).
